OUTLINE OF CHAPTER
Women’s rights in Islam: Pre-Islamic attitude of men towards women, murder of female children for fear of poverty, freedom of religion for women (husband does not have guardianship over his wife), women right to earn and be educated, the testimony of women under Islamic law.
Prevention of sexual temptations: Modest dress in public and lower your gaze, modesty (exception to the rule), hijab for prophet’s wives only. Marriage and family: Prohibition of temporary marriage, case against child marriages, God-willed function of sex, sex within marriage only, why sex outside marriage is not allowed in Islam? Family as blessing of God, children as gift of God, spirituality as basis of marriage, responsibilities of men toward women, whom one can marry, marriage with Christian and Jewish women, marriage with orphan girls, prohibition of marriage with idol worshipers, prohibition of marriage within certain degrees of consanguinity, dowry as a gift, prohibition of sexual intercourse during menses, forced marriages to acquire inheritance and denying dowry, monogamy as a rule, polygamy as an exception to the rule, dealing with rebellious wife, arbitration and marriage counseling, temptations to sin due to love of family.
Divorce and remarriage: Divorce in pre-Islamic times, oath regarding divorce and waiting period, divorce (At-Talaq, 65): do not expel her (during waiting period), parting in fair manner, waiting period for non-menstruating or pregnant women, husband responsible for the maintenance. No waiting period if marriage not consummated, women’s right to divorce. Remarriage with ex-spouse made difficult, let-go of your spouse after divorce, woman’s right of remarriage, breastfeeding children for 2 years, waiting period before remarrying after the death of husband, divorce before consummation of marriage, right of alimony for divorced women.
